The Good Diabetes Care – research project

Type 2 diabetes is an important and increasing public health problem in Finland and worldwide. The Good Diabetes Care – research project focuses on the effectiveness of diabetes care.

The aim is to find the best possible means by which primary health care can achieve favourable outcomes in diabetes care.

The research project investigates:

1) quality of care in primary care health centers in terms of their performance (care congruent with the chronic care model (CCM) principles, autonomy supportive health care climate, organization of care, patient satisfaction, trust in health care personnel) and outcomes of care (diabetes self-management, health outcomes) among patients with type 2 diabetes, and

2) associations between health care performance and outcomes of care when the effect of patients’ other important life context factors have been adjusted for.
