The Folkhälsan Research Center has two research programs - Genetic Research and Public Health Research. The goal of the program for genetic research is to produce knowledge about how both genetic and environmental factors influence the mechanisms of disease emergence. The program for public health research includes research on health promotion among children and adolecents, healthy aging and hormone metabolism.

- Both programs have an active and successful international publication activity and collaborate extensively with both Finnish and international research groups, says Professor Anna-Elina Lehesjoki, who heads the Public Health Research Center.

The Folkhälsan research center employed around 200 people in 2019. The Center's funding was EUR 8.5 million in 2019, of which external funding accounted for 43 percent. In addition, the research groups also had external funding, which was managed at another institution.
