The Fin-HIT study
- Childhood growth environment and genetic factors as determinants of body size and disordered eating
Fin-HIT (Finnish Health in Teens) is a new large cohort study. The aim is to build up a cohort of 40,000 Finnish children aged 11 years to study both environmental and genetic risk and protective factors of overweight, obesity, and disordered eating. The possible gene-environmental interactions will also be determined. Focus will be on the children’s family environment, the use of media, diet, physical activity, sleep and mental health. Data will be collected with extensive questionnaires and saliva samples.
The research group collaborates with researchers at Samfundet Folkhälsan, The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), UKK Institute, and The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare as well as research groups in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Great Britain and USA.
